“El Piso Se Va A Manchar”, The Newest Video By Vincent Vega

Following a major cosmic alignment and a launch party after which every day was like Sunday, Vincent Vega has released its newest video clip. It’s for the song “El Piso Se Va A Manchar” [The Floor’s Gonna Get Splattered], one of the better compositions from their debut album, and a live staple.

The video for “El Piso Se Va A Manchar” uses live-action footage which has been rotoscoped to produce an animated look (a bit like A-ha’s breakthrough video, “Take On Me”). It details a couple’s split, with Matías and Mauricio seen playing in the background as the events are unfolding.

The clip has been directed by María Noel Silvera and Sebastián González Majo.

Rebecca Black’s New Single Is Released: “Person Of Interest”

"Person Of Interest" Is Rebecca Black's Newest Single

One of the most-discussed (and also most-reviled) figures of last year is back for more. Internet artist Rebecca Black has just released her third single. It’s called “Person Of Interest”, and it revolves around the relationship of a girl (played by Rebecca) with a Justin Bieber look-alike.

As you can see, it’s a much better effort than her debut, the widely-despised “Friday”. Yet, that hasn’t stopped haters for voting it down on YouTube. As of the time of writing this, it has received no less than 75,000 dislikes (almost twice the number of likes it has got).

And the comments the video has received are primarily negative, with people picking on her lyrics, her singing, her looks… That can’t be helped, of course. It’s hard to think of Rebecca shaking her legacy anytime soon.

And you? What do you think of Rebecca’s newest song? Is it a step forward, or is it basically more of the same? Just to refresh your memory, this is “Friday”:

Toy Division!

Just found this on YouTube. Absolutely, absolutely likable! I’ve embedded the original performance below (Joy Division playing “Transmission” at Something Else) for those of you who’ve never watched it before. The amount of work that has gone into this is nothing short of laudable.

I’ve recently purchased Joy Division’s “Heart & Soul”, by the way. I’ve been purchasing lots of boxed sets over the last couple of weeks, I might create a “Boxed Sets” category on MusicKO before the month runs its course.

Playing For Change Cover Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground”

Playing For Change

Playing For Change is a collective devoted to bringing music and arts education to underprivileged children in the furthest corners of the world. It became a global phenomenon on the strength of its first release, a cover of “Stand By Me”.

And to mark the very first Playing For Change day ever, this collective has now recorded a cover of Stevie Wonder’s classic track “Higher Ground”.

This is the clip. It features the joint talent of vocalist Clarence Bekker (from the Netherlands) and percussionists from countries as distant as Mali, Senegal, Brazil, Colombia and Jamaica. A 21-string West African bridge-harp is also in evidence.

September the 17th has been designated as the annual Playing For Change day, and the theme of the first one is “Power To The People”. It’s supported by no other than Yoko Ono, and the aim is to raise $250,000 to be able to subsidize the collective’s operations for 2012. Music festivals and personal celebrations have already been announced in all five continents in support of this special day.

Freddy Mercury Gets One Of The Most Remarkable Google Doodles Ever

Freddy Mercury Would Have Become 65 Years Old This September

The candidate for the most impressive Doodle of the year became available earlier today as the Google homepage paid homage to Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 65th birthday.

Set to the music of “Don’t Stop Me Now”, the Doodle (embedded in its entirety below) references some of Mercury’s most emblematic moments. These include him dressing in drag for the “I Want To Break Free” music video, and there are subtle nods to “A Kind Of Magic” and “Innuendo”, the last Queen album to be published in Mercury’s life.

He died on the 24 of November, 1991, less than 24 hours after issuing a statement in which he confirmed the barraging rumors that he was HIV positive.

Willie Nelson Covers Coldplay’s “The Scientist”

Willie Nelson Has Just Covered Coldplay's "The Scientist" As Part Of An Awareness Campaign For Chiplote

Ask people in South America to name some emblematic country artists, and one they’re sure to mention is Willie Nelson. His long, unstoppable career and his cross-genre collaborations (sometimes with best-selling Latin artists like Julio Iglesias) have made him one of the better-known country musicians in Spanish-speaking countries. And as far as Uruguay is concerned, the composer of “Red Headed Stranger” must be one of the most popular country performers ever along with Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Alabama.

I think the video embedded below does nothing but underline the versatility which has made Nelson so popular worldwide. It’s a cover of Coldplay’s “The Scientist”, recorded as part of an awareness campaign for Chiplote.

The video (which depicts a farmer who regrets turning his organic farm into a factory farm) has clearly been created to highlight the importance of sustainable food, and also to emphasize the focus on natural, organic products in Chiplote’s restaurants. It’s interesting to point out how this clip (which has been named “Back to the Start”) is similar in approach to Coldplay’s original video, in which everything is told in reverse order.

Willie’s version of “The Scientist” is being sold in iTunes, with $0.60 of each download going straight to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

“London Eye”, The First Promotional Video By The Blueberries Is Released

The Blueberries onstage. Left to right: Andrés Jaureguy; Virginia Álvarez, Ernesto Pasarisa and Fede Fromhell.

The Blueberries have just issued their first promotional video. That honor was bestowed on the song “London Eye”, the track which opens their eponymous debut. (Profiled on MusicKO here; free download here.)

The video is shot in and about Montevideo’s Parque Rodó, our national airport (shown at the end) and some locations of unspecified source.

And yes, I’m aware that “some locations of unspecified source” is the most bizarre way of saying you haven’t got the foggiest idea where some place is.

I must say I never thought you could play guitar with a smoke in the hand like Ernesto does on the clip… I was amazed enough with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers playing “The Waiting” with their instruments unplugged!

And I thought I was a terrific air drummer! I have to befriend Fede Fromhell on Facebook, we’re becoming soul mates for sure…

“Si Me Pierdo” by Laura Chinelli (Video)

One of the sweetest songs from “Historias de Invierno” gets a guitar-and-voice treatment for this live performance. I actually like this version of “Si Me Pierdo” [If I Get Lost] better than the one on the original album – the brittleness that lies at its core has a much better chance to come through.

This video was recorded live at El Tartamudo, a well-known Uruguayan venue favored by independent and emerging artists. It was recorded and edited by Cecilia Dulce.

100 Different Musicians Cover Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”… In The Same Video!

100 Different Musicians Cover Led Zeppelin In The Same Video... Does The Song Remain The Same?

How many good Led Zeppelin cover bands do you know? One? Two? Three, maybe?

Well, now you can take that number up quite a bit – to one hundred, no less.
Israel-based producer Ophir Kutiel (better-known as Kutiman) has assembled the ultimate Led Zeppelin cover fest by stitching together 100 different cover bands (and individuals) in the same video.

Sounds quite intriguing, huh? Well, the results hold together admirably well.

Check the finished piece. The song is “Black Dog”, from “Led Zeppelin IV”.

“Mr. Hide”, The First Single From Italian Band The R’s (Video)

“De Fauna Et Flora" is The R's debut album in America. The band is led by bass player (and singer) Pietro Paletti.

A new Italian band, The R’s have just released the first single from their American debut (“De Fauna Et Flora”). The song is called “Mr. Hide”, and it is a fine exploration of duality set to an undiluted pop background.  Suitably-enough, the clip is dominated by black and white. And more mirrors than Kelly Clarkson’s “Because Of You” video.

What do you think? Is this trio poised for some visibility? Or will the three of them just become Messrs. Hide themselves?

Whatever you opinion is, give “De Fauna Et Flora” a listen. I like many of the songs on the album better than “Mr. Hide” – try out “Colossus”, “Easy Way Out” and the set opener, “On Our Minds”.
