Vevo Adds A Channel For The Promotion Of New Artists

As one could have guessed from the latest figures that were released, the growth of Vevo is not stopping anytime soon. Last week saw the addition of a new channel, and one that could modify the way people experience the video platform for the better.

Named “The Next Wave presented by Schick Hydro”, the channel is basically a showcase for new talent. Unfortunately, not every kind of new artist could be featured there – only those who are signed to any of the three record companies that have partnered with YouTube (remember, Vevo is a joint venture comprising Google, Universal, Sony and investor Abu Dhabi Media Company) have a chance to be spotlighted .

The idea is clearly to give these artists that have already been signed a chance to become a new sensation to rival others like Lady Gaga (who is responsible for the bulk of visits Vevo has every month). Continue reading

Watch Out Justin Bieber, Greyson Chance Is Here

Greyson Michael Chance is the new viral sensation. His solo performance of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at a school festival has garnered more than ten million YouTube views in just two weeks.

This performance eventually resulted in Greyson being invited over to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he was to blow the audience away… again.

What’s next for this twelve-year old? Think it over while you watch his original viral performance.

Lady Gaga Becomes The First Artist Ever To Have 1 Billion Online Video Views

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

It was just to be expected. This week, Lady Gaga has become the first artist to have over 1 billion online video views. This feat was achieved on the strength of three videos alone. Quite obviously, they are “Poker Face”, “Just Dance” and “Bad Romance”. Here you have them just in case you need to do some brushing up:

Poker Face

Bad Romance

Just Dance

Love her or hate her, you can’t deny how intelligent she has been when it comes to using social media and viral videos for putting herself across.

Personally, I am not really a big fan of her music. But I recently saw her perform a duet with Elton John and I sort of softened up. Just a little.

And for those who absolutely abhor the woman, this video is a must. It is a Lady Gaga impersonator on ChatRouelette. It is hysterical and abominable at the same time. Enjoy!

Is This The Next Lady Gaga?

Let me introduce you to the latest sensation from China. Named PixieTea, she has already been touted as a Lady Gaga contender. Her approach to making music is certainly original – her backing tracks are composed using nothing but her iPhone.

The software and apps that she employs include DrumMeister, Bassist, iDrum, NlogSynthesizer, NESynth and iShred. The results? Have a good look for yourself:

You can say what you want, but you can’t accuse her of not being distinctive. Before being uploaded to YouTube, her video was big news in Youku (the Chinese equivalent to YouTube).

So, what do you think? Is she a rising star or another no-hoper? Let’s discuss it in the “Comments” section below.
