Cindy Lauper Performs “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” When Stranded In Argentina

Something bizarre for the weekend… Cindy Lauper recently found herself stranded at Jorge Newbery Airport in Argentina, and when the wait became just too bloody long for everybody she did the only thing she could do: seize a microphone and entertain the crowd.

This is her performing her signature song, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”:

It is hard to watch this and not think of Kanye West’s recent stunt on a Delta flight in which he took over the PA and regaled passengers with performances of the songs “Gold Digger” and “Good Life.”

Which was not bad a move at all. Yet, the “Imma let you finish” incident is a hard bone to chew. He will have to exert himself even more…

It Took The Strokes 5 Full Years To Release A New Album, But “Angles” Is Coming To Stores At The End Of March

After a five-year hiatus, The Strokes are back in town with a new album (“Angles”), and a sparkling video to go with it.

The first song on the album (“Under Cover Of Darkness”) has been chosen as its first promotional side. The clip has already been watched more than 900,000 times. Here you have it:

Not bad. Not at all. Yet, whether “Angles” will make people forget “Is This It” (the band’s spotless debut from 2001) or just bring it to mind time and again is the question that the press has been asking incessantly.

“Angles” is slated to be released on March 22 in the US, and March 21 in the UK…

The newest video by Lady Gaga has just premiered on Vevo, and if it doesn’t shake the ground from beneath Justin Bieber’s feet (her main online competitor) then nothing will. “Born This Way” is already the fastest-selling single on iTunes, and the video has been viewed over 7 million times.

The battle for online supremacy rages on and on…

Eminem (The Most Popular Living Person On Facebook, With Over 29 Million Page Likes) Has Finally Amassed 1 Billion Views On YouTube

Some thought that Michael Jackson was going to become the next artist with one billion video views on YouTube, and join Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber in that most exclusive of clubs.

Well, things have turned out quite differently. Somebody got there first.

This week, Eminem crossed that threshold.

And that is surprising only if you haven’t really been paying attention.

Eminem: 1) Has 29 million fans on Facebook, 2) Has 3 million followers on Twitter, and 3) Topped the Billboard’s Social 50 chart along with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Besides, Eminem was the prevalent face in the recent Super Bowl commercials. Continue reading

Badly Drawn Boy’s “Promises” and “Nothing’s Gonna Change Your Mind” (Videos)

Badly Drawn Boy

Badly Drawn Boy

Poor Badly Drawn Boy. I gave him some stick when reviewing Erika Chuwoki’s debut EP, “La Corporación”. Rather, the latest album that he had released (“Born In The UK”) got the stick. I really adore the guy.

And I just feel I have to say that “Born In The UK” has some really good songs. “Promises” is one. “The Times Of Times” is another. And so is “Degrees Of Separation”.

Plus, there are a couple of songs like “Nothing’s Gonna Change Your Mind” whose videos turn them into something largely more appealing.

See it for yourself. I have embedded both the videos for “Promises” and “Nothing’s Gonna Change Your Mind” below. I’m sure you’ll more than enjoy them.

Weren’t it for dreck like “Welcome To The Overground” and the title track, “Born In The UK” would have been a more than decent album. Sigh.

What Makes A Video Go Viral?

Just what makes a video go viral? Read on…

Just what makes a video go viral? Read on…

Ahh, if only that question had a univocal answer… But nothing is ever that simple.

Well, it doesn’t need to be as hard as not laughing at Miley Cyrus’ “rebellious” self either. Check the infograph included below (originally published on tech blog Mashable), and see if you can learn (and put to effective use) a thing or two.

Part of the information is obvious (like the shorter the clip, the more likely it will be to be passed along), and part of it is obvious and impressive at the same time – Facebook amounts to as much as three-quarters of online shares of video clips. That is more than Twitter and email taken together. But thing like “Southerners watch and Midwesterners share” are sure to come as revelatory to many.

Let’s see how you can maximize this data when it comes to creating promo clips to spread your music around…

Four Legal Ways To Find Music For Any Video You Upload To YouTube

illegal music

Putting a video together commemorating one of these once-in-a-lifetime occasions is lots of fun and a tearjerker for everybody… until YouTube takes it down because you used music you weren’t supposed to even get near to begin with.

If you want to ensure that isn’t ever happening to you, below you have four legal ways to find music you could use as part of your montage.

1- Creative Commons Licenses

A creative commons license denotes works that the artists have decided to share with the public, while keeping certain rights to themselves.

There are lots of free creative commons audio tracks on the Web. Check these sites out: Jamendo, Danodongs and Incompetech. The first is a repository with more than a quarter million tracks, and the other two are examples of sites created by individual artists.

2- Stock Audio

Much like stock photo libraries, stock audio libraries let people license music for specific purposes. Check iStockphoto to learn about the legalities at play, and to see all the different types of licenses that are available. Continue reading

Moon On The Water (AKA Full Moon Sway) From The Anime “Beck” (Video)

Koyuki On The Cover Of The First DVD Volume Of "Beck", As Issued By Funimation

Koyuki On The Cover Of The First Volume Of "Beck", As Issued By Funimation

I am about to finish watching “Beck”, a terrific anime that tells the story of a young band that fights for its place in the sun.

In episode 12, Koyuki (the show’s protagonist) is invited onstage by mega-successful band Dying Breed. He performs a sterling version of their own “Moon On The Water”, amazing both his bandmates (who are in the public) and stealing the heart of Maho, his love interest.

I am finishing watching the anime tomorrow. I can think of plenty more scenes to share with you already. All I can tell you now is that if you love music you have to give it a try.

And a live-action movie is to be released as I am writing this, too. Hopefully, that will make even more people become acquainted with this anime and the great manga (IE, Japanese comic) it has been based on.

The Latest Tron Legacy Trailer Is a Music Video By Daft Punk

One Of The Many Promotional Posters From Tron: Legacy

One Of The Many Promotional Posters For Tron: Legacy

Tron: Legacy must be one of the most eagerly-awaited movies of the year. Part of the interest itself arises from Daft Punk’s involvement, of course. The French duo has not only composed the soundtrack to the highly-expected movie, but they also have an actual cameo.

And you can see them in the latest trailer that has been released by Disney. True to their onstage personas, the two members of Daft Punk appear fully-costumed.

This trailer doubles as a music video for Daft Punk’s “Derezzed,” a track which is included on the film’s OST.

The movie hits American and Canadian theaters on the 17th of December. I’ll post more info as it becomes available.

YouTube Star Fredrik Larsson Records A Cartoon Medley (Video)

Fredrik Larsson (AKA Freddegedde) Is Sweden's YouTube Star

Fredrik Larsson (AKA FreddeGedde) Is Sweden's Number One YouTube Star

Fredrik Larsson is the YouTube star par excellence that Sweden has produced. He became popular when he recorded and uploaded a TV theme song medley way back in March, under the name “FreddeGedde”. And now he is back with more, only that this time he is singing themes from cartoons.

Duck Tales, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Animaniacs, Inspector Gadget, Ghostbusters, Digimon, Darkwing Duck… that is just the beginning of this new medley. Lasting seven minutes, it is sure to bring quite a good couple of infant memories back.

Personal favorites? The Smurfs, Bravestarr and The Gummi Bears.

And the Donald Duck impersonation at the end is radical.
